RTYC West Coast of Scotland Meet at Crinan - June 3rd 2006

I am delighted to report that sufficient interest has been expressed to make the plan to meet for dinner at the Crinan Hotel "a goer".

It is planned that the evening will start with drinks on members' yachts in the canal basin at Crinan. Before dinner, we will move to the hotel's top floor bar where the views are superb (if the weather allows!) We are booked to dine in the hotel's "Westward Restaurant" where we will get a five course dinner with free choice from their full menu. (click here to see a sample menu)

We are currently limited to 20 places for the dinner at the Hotel and most of these spaces have already been taken. If you are interested in joining us please contact me urgently to see if we can fit you in.

R/C (Sailing) Andrew Collins has kindly agreed to join us to represent the Flag Officers.

Dear RTYC member,

RTYC West Coast of Scotland Meet - June 3rd 2006

Following the highly acclaimed RTYC West Highland Rally last May, it is proposed that any members who are so minded should meet over the course of a weekend on the West Coast of Scotland during the first weekend in June this year.

At present, no plans are set in stone, but is has been provisionally thought that as there may be RTYC yachts which have been participating in the Scottish Series the weekend before, Crinan might prove a satisfactory mid point which can be reached by any who have been racing and by others whose yachts may be further north and west than the Clyde.

The formal element of the meet would be dinner to be held at the Crinan Hotel, probably on Saturday 3rd June, and it is hoped that any members who are unable to bring their own yachts might still wish to come for dinner and stay at the Hotel or at one of the B&Bs nearby.

Thereafter, those participating may informally arrange to cruise in company for a few days, but there would be no further organised events. I personally hope to be taking Hiltgund further north during the course of the following week and would be delighted if there were other RTYC yachts around to meet up with for meals ashore.

However, if these arrangements were to suit very few or no one at all, then this plan is no good and I would welcome alternative suggestions which might attract a larger turnout. Possible alternatives might include Dunstaffnage, or a return to the Western Isles Hotel at Tobermory both of which looked after us well last year. I think that locations further north might well present logistical difficulties for those of us who would not be leaving Loch Fyne until Wednesday 31st May at the earliest after the Scottish Series. Also, if a wider number found the following weekend suited them better, then that could also be considered.

As it would be helpful to get an early indication of what degree of interest there might be in this event, I would be grateful if you could return the attached form* as soon as possible. I will be at the Cruisers Night at the Club on January 19th if you wish to chat about possibilities and alternatives then.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Perring
